Synaesthesia and the Institution of the Christian Senses: Review of L’invention chrétienne des cinq sens (by Éric Palazzo).

Activity: Talk or presentation typesLecture and oral contribution

Description

Two recently published books, Éric Palazzo's "L’invention chrétienne des cinq sens" (2014) and "The Saturated Sensorium: Principles of Perception and
Mediation in the Middle Ages", ed. by Hans Henrik Lohfert Jørgensen, Henning Laugerud and Laura K. Skinnebach (2015) offer decisive new insights into the synaesthetic and multimodal nature of medieval sense perception and mediation. The seminar presented oral reviews of these books by authors and editors in the context of a general discussion of the medieval organization of the senses and sensory experience. My contribution was an oral presentation and review of Palazzo's magisterial book.
