Description

Female genital mutilation (FGM) is internationally recognised as a violation of the human rights of women and girls. However, despite this recognition, the tradition annually affects three million girls in Africa between the ages of 4-15 years old. Furthermore, approximately 130 million women and girls worldwide live with the many somatic and psychological consequences of the unnecessary procedure which has no health benefits. The seminar focuses on how to prevent FGM and presents speakers from national and international organisations which are working towards eliminating the practice of FGM.
