Description

PhD project:

Altered blood lipid concentrations are highly prevalent in individuals with anorexia nervosa (AN). Furthermore, recent genetic studies have reported an association between AN and increased lipid concentrations. Increased lipid concentrations are also associated with an accelerated decline in cognitive function. Together these findings indicate an underlying lipid dysregulation in individuals with AN. However, the research in lipid concentrations in AN is inconclusive with studies reporting both increased and decreased levels. Therefore, we are conducting a PhD-project, with the following objectives, with the aim of critically examining the association between lipid concentrations, lipid composition, and cognition in individuals with AN compared with healthy volunteers.

The objective with the current PhD project is to:
1. To conduct a systematic review of studies investigating lipid concentrations in patients with AN, before and after weight restoration, to provide a clearer picture of lipid alterations compared with a healthy control group.
2. To investigate the association between lipid concentrations and cognition in patients with AN before and after weight restoration compared with a healthy control group.
