Description
Course content: The course aim is to introduce the students to the analytical work of qualitative research and the process of writing about their results/findings. Particular attention is paid to the students’ own work with their analyzes. It is therefore a prerequisite for the course that the students have either generated some of the empirical basis for their PhD thesis or will do so in the period between first and second parts of the course. A special emphasis will be placed on the relationship between analytical approaches, tools, and practical conduct of the analysis of the empirical material and the continuous writing, as these are considered to be integral aspects of the analysis. This course will place particular emphasis on how the choice of an analytical approach is linked to the empirical material through the integration of theoretical assumptions and concepts. The course will introduce selected computer-based programs for qualitative analysis (NVivo) and discuss their importance for the analysis. Furthermore, the course will emphasize the importance of the writing process as a significant part of the analysis. The course will introduce analytical approaches that are within the range of linguistic analysis (e.g., discourse, narrative) and analysis of meaning (e.g., grounded theory/coding, meaning condensation, and hermeneutic interpretation).Period | 2016 |
