Description
The cultural dimension of EU has been there from the start, but as a shadow like background without real policy dimensions. This was changed after 1992 and the Maastricth Treaty where culture became an official part of the EU policies and thus added a broader context to those film and media initiatives that predate this year. However, the EU cultural dimension and policy and the activities and support mechanisms have for a long time been caught between different ideologies and principles of support, also present on the national level, and by strong tensions between conflicting national traditions and problems with establishing a European audiovisual space and transnational collaboration structure. In my presentation I will raise and discuss some of the general issues and problems in the construction of a European film culture – whatever that means. But my main focus will be on tendencies towards a mobilization of the European audiovisual sector itself through the Danish initiative Think Tank on Film and Film policy formed in 2007Period | 18 Mar 2009 |
