På sporet af Alborg - et eksempel på små centre perifert i Danmark

Abstract

An account is given of the use of a Nordic girl's name, Alborg, possibly of German origin. The name only occurs in East and South Sjælland but it was of extremely frequent occurrence for a limited period at the end of the eighteenth century.

A description is also given of the means that are available for mapping the name in more recent times by the exploitation of various databases on the internet. The Nordic name renaissance cannot be shown to have had consequences for the survival of the name. At the present time the name is no longer in use as a first forename. It is not possible to explain the reason for the disappearance of the name. It may have been thought that it was too similar to the name of the town of Aalborg and might therefore have been thought to be slightly comical.
