Abstract

Te new European state Montenegro has been a scene or an
internal ecclesial strie between the Serbian Orthodox Church and the
newly ormed Montenegrin Orthodox Church since the early nineties.
Tis article ocuses on the ecclesiological models used in the discus-
sion between the two churches. On one side the Montenegrin church
understands itsel rom the classical juridical “eusebian” church model.
Tis model’s main ocus is the lawul canonic status o independent
churches called autocephaly, which the Montenegrin church claims to
possess. On the other side the Serbian Orthodox Church operates with
a Neo-patristic ecclesiological model that claims the Eucharist as the
true orm or an orthodox church. A orm that the Serbian church de-
nies that its Montenegrin counterpart has. Te two models are ocused
on two different key-aspects o the orthodox ecclesiological complex,
which are the canon laws and the genuine patristic tradition.
