Abstract
A study of Ivan Mozzhukhin's use of distinct and indistinct kinds of expressiveness in his film performances suggests that he has been unfairly associated with the idea that character emotions can be constructed at the editing table, independent of what the actor does. This is corroborated by a study of experiments which aim to replicate a famous experiment by Lev Kuleshov, as well as archival findings.
