Abstract

Taking the Kuhnian revolution in the philosophy of science as its point of departure, this chapter discusses the lessening influence of logical positivism as well as how the recognition of the subjectivity of the researcher, the social and historical nature of bibliometric patterns, and the importance of subject knowledge and subject theories have the potential to transform all sciences and meta-sciences including informetrics in a positive direction.
