N2 - Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) is a minimally invasive surgical technique where access to the abdominal cavity is achieved through one of the natural orifices of the body. Based on experience from gynaecology, transvaginal access has been the easiest NOTES technique to implement in clinical practice. As was the case with laparoscopy, transvaginal NOTES has primarily been evaluated for cholecystectomy. Although the evidence is limited, the data support a safety profile comparable to that of laparoscopy. As for potential benefits, further research needs to be conducted.
