N2 - As funding and evaluation are presented to the researcher as part of the same package, control of the assessment of ‘quality’ and ‘impact’ (in their many guises) in an evaluation can be improved by actively involving the individual researcher. However, encouraging researchers to document their activities with bibliometrics means it is important to understand the ethical implications of this type of self-evaluation.
