N2 - Gaseous 3-mercaptopropanal, generated by thermal decomposition of the corresponding oligomer, has been characterized by i.r. and photoelectron spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. The possibility of a 3-mercaptopropanal-thietan-2-ol equilibrium is discussed, as is the mechanism of unimolecular thermal decomposition.
