Kort præsentation

Planters biokemi

Jeg underviser i biokemi og naturstofkemi samt i almen førsteårskemi. Min forskning omhandler naturstofkemisk analyse, strukturopklaring af naturstoffer og funktionel karakterisering af enzymer, med fokus på planters naturstoffer og relaterede enzymer. Disse stoffer er sandsynligvis udviklet som forsvar mod insekter og sygdomme, men har også betydning for f.eks. ernæring. Jeg fokuserer på landbrugsafgrøder og deres vilde slægtninge. De konkrete afgrøder er f.eks. sennep og kål, og den vigtigste vilde slægtning er planten vinterkarse. Men forskningen er ikke snævert rettet mod at løse bestemte problemer. Istedet beskriver og undersøger jeg helt nye molekyler og biokemiske reaktioner, som måske kan give nye ideer til planteforældlingen. 

Kemisk Økologi

Omtrent halvdelen af forskningen er "ren" plantebiokemi hvor planten undersøges som et isoleret system. Med det har vist sig at planternes biokemi i høj grad kommer til udtryk i samspil med sygdomme og planteædende insekter, så en anden del af forskningen drejer sig om dette samspil. Denne type forskning kaldes sommetider "kemisk økologi" eller "økologisk biokemi", fordi vi undersøger den del af biokemien der har at gøre med planternes økologi at gøre. Vi fokuserer på vigtige skadedyr i landbrug og gartneri, især kålmøl og kålorme.

Aktuel forskning:

Plantebiokemi og sekundære metabolitter. Biokemiske undersøgelser af glucosinolat-myrosinase-systemet og andre forsvarssystemer i korsblomstrede planter. Fokus er pt. på glucosinolat-diversitet og evolution, downstream reaktioner i glucosinolatnedbrydning, og glucosinolater som intermediater i biosyntesen af andre metabolitter.

Biokemiske insekt-plante interaktioner. Den kemiske basis for resistens og modtagelighed. Fokus er pt. på opdagelse af nye forsvarsmolekyler.

I alle tilfælde spænder undersøgelserne over et bredt felt, fra molekylær strukturbestemmelse og udforskning af biokemiske reaktionsveje til økologiske og evolutionære undersøgelser.
