I am a sociologist who works on immigration, in particular on social and ethnic stratification as well as on the political sociology of immigration. In addition to my substantial research, I have expertise in the field of quantitative empirical social science research and methods. Currently, my work revolves around the following four topics:

• How does growing ethnic diversity affect societies’ social cohesiveness?

• Perceived and actual discrimination, that is why do claims about the pervasiveness of discrimination seem to intensify, as western societies increase equality and liberty with regards to immigrant minorities?

• How can we explain the careers of mismatched (ethnic minority) employees on European labor markets?

• How can we perform valid and reliable statistical multilevel analysis of small cluster samples?
