Efter at have læst tyrkisk, arkæologi, og engelsk ved Lórand Eötvös Universitet i Budapest, skrev jeg min Ph.D. afhandling ved Cambridge Universitet (tyrkiske studier) og min Dr. Phil. (habilitation) grad ved Humboldt Universitet, Berlin i centralasiatiske studier. Mine hovedinteresser strækker sig over historie, samfund og kulturer i den tyrkisktalende verden, med specielt fokus på Xinjiang, Centralasien og Tyrkiet. I mit arbejde kombinerer jeg tekstbaseret forskning med empiriske metoder for data indsamling. Jeg har udført omfattende feltarbejde i nordøst Tyrkiet, nordvest Kina (Xinjiang) og Kasakhstan.
