Beskrivelse

My presentation is about the donor’s point of view. I interviewed 28 men that have donated semen in Denmark as part of my ongoing PhD-project. My presentation will explore what notions of relatedness they applied when talking to me about being a sperm donor. This preliminary exploration is part of my attempt to grasp what role notions of relatedness play in the field of sperm donation in Denmark: what kinds of relations are deemed important by donors, and how do they conceptualize relatedness in their narratives about being a sperm donor? In the context of this session, I want to focus on what donors had to say about anonymity and how their decisions to either be an anonymous or non-anonymous donor invoked notions of relatedness. And I want to ask, at which point these notions related to genetics and heredity.
