Beskrivelse

Panel at The Glasgow Film Festival 2017

The Scottish screen industry is often compared to those in Scandinavia. In this panel, commissioners and directors of Public Screen Funding organisations in Scotland, Denmark and Sweden discuss the differences and similarities between screen funding in smaller northern European countries. How do national screen policies, funding initiatives and the funders themselves influence national creative cultures and economies? What is regarded as best practice when it comes to developing strong small nation film cultures, and how are notions of quality, value and success discussed and perceived in different funding frameworks? Participating funders: Creative Scotland (Natalie Usher, Director Screen), the Danish Film Institute (Claus Ladegaard, Head of Film Funding), the Swedish Film Institute; and Screen Netherlands. Chairs: Inge Ejbye Sørensen, Lecturer at Centre for Cultural Policy Research, University of Glasgow and Eva Novrup Redvall, Associate Professor, University of Copenhagen. This panel marks the conclusion of a series of workshops between Creative Scotland, Danish Screen, New Danish Screen, The Swedish Film Institute, the Norwegian Film Institute and Screen Netherlands, and academics at Centre for Cultural Policy at University of Glasgow and Department of Film, Media and Communication at the University of Copenhagen. The panel is funded by the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Creative Europe Desk UK, Scotland and the University of Glasgow Economic and Social Research Council Impact Acceleration Account (ES/M500471/1). Commissioning Creativity is delivered in partnership with University of Glasgow, Economic & Social Research Council and Creative Europe with support by Creative Europe Media Desk and Royal Society of Edinburgh.
