Beskrivelse
This paper considers the cinematic portrayal of the city in Walt Disney cartoons from the late 1930s to the late 1950s. While cartoons were often, indeed initially imagined as, offerings for a mixed audience, they have come to be seen and marketed mostly to children. Shown and re-shown, viewed and re-viewed, packaged and repackaged, many classic era cartoons still read wide audiences of young people today. What kinds of images are relayed to children? What is children’s place in the city, seen from the viewpoint of the materials they see?
