Beskrivelse
Human beings like any other living organism are genetically defined and limited by the information residing in the genome. Of the three billion bases of our genome less the 1 % differs between individuals, but apart from identical twins all human beings are genetically different, we all have a unique genetic identity, which has a decisive influence on our physical and mental capabilities and potential. During the past couple of decades it has become increasingly clear that susceptibilities to common diseases such as various cancer forms, heart condition, diabetes etc. can be "read from the genome", (as may eventually be talent for art, sports or occupational potentials). The list is expanding as we learn more about our genes and their function. Within the past few years it has through "Next Generation Sequencing" become possible on an individual basis (for less than DKK 30.000) to obtain access to the entire genome sequence. In the course, state of the art sequencing technology and individual genome analyses are presented, and the applications and impacts of whole genome sequence information within individualized medicine, drug discovery, diagnostics, forensics, a.o. will be presented and discussed.Periode | 3 mar. 2014 → 7 mar. 2014 |
