Description
What image of Europe is present in contemporary European cinema? Who is European and who is not? And in a time of crisis and rising nationalism, why should an audience be interested in Europe anyway? Films from neighbouring European countries can't compete with the popularity of national or American productions.
This seminar will address what types of stories and cultural encounters that we as Europeans are offered through European cinema. The seminar draws on findings from the joint European research project "Mediating Cultural Encounters Through European Screens" (mecetes.co.uk). The seminar is part of the section "Europe, Europe"
